I’ve just finished watching the movie and was very impressed. It really moved me. I haven’t met anyone with Tourette, but I first heard about it when a soccer goalie (Tim Howard) transferred to the English club Manchester United. After reading about the syndrome I thought that it took a lot of will power to get to the US national team and play for Man U.
Your story was moving and it touched a sensible part of my soul. Keep doing the things you do. I just happened to stumble upon the movie about you and something dragged me towards the TV set and kept watching until the end. After that I decided to look for information about you and the movie on the net and found this blog. Just wanted to say hi form thousands of miles away.

This is the only Hallmark movie I have ever seen. It was a brilliant portrayl of a TSer. No copralalia thank G-d. The movie’s angle is also what makes it great. It doesn’t deal with the disorder itself and what causes it – it deals with the heart of the matter – the emotions, the outcasting, the self-esteem rollercoaster, the constant ridicule that a child with TS goes through – and how it affects you on into adulthood.

It also deals with how adults are even less willing to be educated about it than kids are – and how set in their ways and mean they can be. This part is what affected me the most. I actually wasn’t allowed to be friends with certain kids I got along with because their parents thought I was annoying.

Quick story to go along with your countless stories – Couple of times, I went to bday parties at friend’s houses and their parents yanked me from the party and didn’t tell me why. They brought me to the front door where I found my mother waiting for me. My mom would be mad, convinced that I did something bad like fight or swear – for my friend’s mom to have asked me to leave. When my mom called the other mom to find out what it was that I did, she said it was because I was intentionally making noises and twitching. My mother felt horrible and apologized to me – the only time she’s ever done it – and told the other mom what my deal was. Well, she didn’t care and I was never invited over again.

The point here is: Whatever makes ignorant people tick (no pun intended), I sure don’t want to know.

My wife made the comment that during watching the movie, my tics were non-existent…ironic, huh? Also
